Church Finances

The summer months took a deep toll on giving to St. John’s. We’re currently $19,808.81 short on what we need to pay our bills. Third quarter statements are being sent out now. If you’re behind on your pledge and can make up the difference or can make an extra offering, that would help tremendously. Please see pages 4 and 5 for more information on how to understand the financial needs of the church. Financial information is always on the back of the bulletin each week and on page 2 of the newsletter each month. To have an honest and balanced budget next year, we need the “Estimate of Giving” forms from each person by November 19. Tip: You can set up your offering to be an automatic “bill pay” through your bank. That way if you’re not in church one Sunday, the church still receives your offering. This is “first fruits” giving at its finest.

Text Box: Secret Santa
St. John’s is again helping with the Alden-Hebron Elementary School Secret Santa program by adopting 12 kids. Take as many angels as you’d like from the tree in the entryway, and purchase the gifts listed on them. Bring them to the altar by December 3 with the angel attached to the gift. All gifts should be UNWRAPPED (the elementary kids do this), and with a gift receipt (people ask for clothing, so this helps if it doesn’t fit right). If you’d like to adopt a family, please call Colleen Geils at the school at 815-648-2442, x1530. Also, the school is looking for donations of wrapping paper and tape; please drop that off at the school ASAP. The school kids will bring the gifts to church on Monday, December 18, at 2:00. If you’re available for about 30 minutes, they’d love some help unloading the gifts.
Text Box: Winter Wear Giveaway: We’re collecting CLEAN, GENTLY-USED coats, boots, hats, mitten/gloves, and scarves at the Subway (10113 Main Street) from November
1-12 for our SECOND ANNUAL Winter Wear Giveaway. The giveaway will be held in
the space next to Subway from 4:00 to 7:00pm November 13 and 14. Please let friends and family know so they can donate or take what they need. People are also invited to TRADE their winter wear (just make sure it’s clean, please!). Want to help? Talk to Gayle Mansfield.

Community Thanksgiving

Service

The community churches will come together at Thanksgiving to worship and give thanks for all we have. This year’s service will take place at the Alden United Methodist Church (16532 Rt. 173) on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 7:00pm. Pastor Sarah will preach, Pastor Jim will give the children’s

sermon, and Pastor Eric will lead worship. The offerings for the

service all go to the Hebron Food Pantry; please make checks out to

St. John’s. Afterwards stay for a time of fellowship!
