St. John's Lutheran Church

High School Youth Group

The goal of this group is to have fun, to serve, and to deepen our relationship with God. We have Bible studies, go bowling, have scavenger hunts for food pantries, and do whatever other adventures come our way. Since 2009, we've been blessed to go on mission trips to New Orleans, St. Paul, Minnesota, South Dakota, and New York City to serve God's people.

Middle School Youth Group

This group meets once a month for fun and fellowship, anything to bowling to lock-ins to sledding. Anyone in grades 5 through 8 is welcome to join us! See the newsletter for more information.

Sunday School

Every Sunday morning from September to early May children are invited to gather in the sanctuary at 8:30 for an opening prayer with Pastor Debbie. From there they go down to the fellowship hall for Sunday school: ages 2 through kindergarten, grades 1-4, and grades 5-8. Classes are taught by adults or high school students and last until 9:15.

Confirmation is a 2-year program at St. John's for students who are typically in seventh and eighth grades. Students come to class on the 1st Sunday of the month from noon to 2:30 pm where they learn about the Old Testament, the New Testament, and Luther’s Small Catechism. Each year the class goes on a weekend retreat to Lutherdale camp in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, as well as a field trip to a place of worship that’s different from what they’re used to. Each student is matched with a mentor who walks with them for the two years.

Vacation Bible School

The Alden-Hebron Community Vacation Bible School is a community-run week-long event supported by St. John’s and the United Methodist churches in Hebron and Alden. It’s housed by St. John’s and is run by caring and fun volunteers from the community in early June each year. Please call the church if you’d like to help or if you’d like to sign a child up.

Highway Clean-up

St. John’s has been cleaning up the 2 miles south of Hebron on Route 47 for many years now. Four times a year from April to November we walk the highway and clean up trash in response to God’s command to care for the earth.

Girlfriend's Group

Do you ever need a chance to get out of the house and unwind with friends? St. John’s has recently started a Girlfriends Group for women who are looking for a chance to socialize with other women, work on a service project or two, and learn more about the Bible.

Men's Club

Men's group meets on the last Thursday of the month.

Please talk to Jim Lange with any questions or ideas. 815-509-9465

Public Action to Deliver Shelter is McHenry County’s attempt to house the homeless in our communities. St. John’s takes part in this important ministry several times a year by providing dinner and volunteers to oversee an overnight site. Please see the newsletter for more information.
