Helpful Links and Resources

Northern Illinois Synod

The ELCA is divided into 65 "synods" throughout the United States. St. John's is a part of the Northern Illinois Synod, headquartered in Rockford. We support this synod financially, which goes to pay staff salaries as well as support many ministries of the Lutheran church, including Lutheran camps, colleges, and seminars, as well as Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, to name a few.

ELCA

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is composed of nearly 5 million members and 10,500 churches. The ELCA website is a great resource for Bible studies and devotional materials, information about the church and its beliefs, and programs run by the ELCA.

Harvard Senior Center

St. John’s is partnering with the Harvard Senior Center to provide Alden-Hebron area seniors with programming that includes exercise classes (including tai chi and yoga), games (BINGO!), wellness topics, and fellowship several times a week. All seniors are welcome to participate in this fun and active group. Please see the newsletter for more details on days and times for these programs.

Lutherdale Ministries

Lutherdale is a camp of the Lutheran Church located in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. It's set on a lake and has cabin camping, a conference center, and many, many different activities throughout the year. The confirmation program at St. John's has long gone to weekend retreats each year, and many of our youth attend the week-long camps in the summer.

LOMC

Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Center is a camp located in Oregon, Illinois. They offer year-round programming, focusing on their summer camps for children. They also have a great low-ropes course that the high school youth group has used.

LSSI

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois is an agency that provides a variety of services, including substance abuse counseling, foster care and adoption services, housing for seniors and the disabled, and ministry to prisoners and their families.

Hebron Food Pantry

The Hebron Food Pantry, located at 10317 Freeman Road, is open the first and third Thursdays of the month from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. St. John's works hard to support the pantry as much as we can. In addition to having food drives throughout the year, we also recycle aluminum cans and donate the proceeds to the pantry. It's amazing how quickly those cans add up! The offerings from our Community Thanksgiving eve service all benefit this important ministry.

PADS

Public Action to Deliver Shelter is McHenry County’s attempt to house the homeless in our communities. St. John’s takes part in this important ministry several times a year by providing dinner and volunteers to oversee an overnight site. Please see the newsletter for more information.
